My clock showed
9.00 PM. With a quite delicious dinner my hunger got filled for the evening. I
booted my laptop and started surfing over some articles. My grandpa aged 91 was
slowly sipping over his hot milk. With his bold spectacles, he saw me, gradually
got up, came and sat near me. He was still strong both by his body and mind.
He posed me few questions on my activity grabbing my attention. I answered
him patiently for all his questions and he nodded his head as a response. After
few minutes, to my surprise, he asked me about “Skype”. I was taken aback with
his curiosity and posed him back as how does he know this and what makes him to
get knowledge on Skype. I knew my grandpa is an ardent lover of newspapers and
magazines right from his early days which inspires me the most. On no doubt,
his answer wasn't surprising to me. He said he read it in the magazine today
morning and wanted to know more about. It was already 9.30 PM, half an hour
post his usual time to bed. I promised him to tell about it tomorrow morning as
it was too late for him. Not convinced with my answer, he asked me again
without moving away from his chair. I was left with no option to explain him about Skype. It was time for me to go into the books of this software and teach
him as how it works. I started telling him about how to use it, why do we
prefer it using, when to use it, its benefits, so on and so forth. It was just
another seminar which I did after few years since my college days. He patiently
listened to everything with great enthusiasm. Finally he requested me to show a
demo of how it works. There were NIL online friends of mine at that moment.
With no option, I called over my twin and asked her to come over to support. Within
few minutes, she was online and I attended her voice call over this software. My grandpa with full excitement said a big hi to her by waving his
hands. She was on the other end felt elated to see him. They started talking
about things near and far. I could see the gladness and joy in my grandpa’s
eyes. I could see the victory sign that he has learnt and achieved something
big today. After ten minutes, with a heavy heart, he gave a sign off to my
sister. He gave a pat at my shoulder and gracefully conveyed his thanks. With
similes on his face, he said “tomorrow I can create my own ID for myself and enjoy
being a part of Skype.” With this statement he slowly moved away from the place
and went to drowse with a big sing of relief.
It was 10.15 PM,
my eyes did not move away from him for a minute. I was thinking over his thirst
to learn new things at this age and his keenness to grab one’s teachings. He
proved that learning has never had any limit or age. The knowledge you
accumulate from your childhood speaks on volumes when you depart from your life.
It is all about one’s own self interest to learn and nourish the success, failures
experiences or mistakes he has gained in life. A salute to his dedication to
add up his knowledge at this age.
In another few
hours, the hands of the clock is going to hit 12 AM, the bells of rings are
ready to welcome the New Year 2013. On this year, let’s plan to make each day
as our beginning and fulfill it with utmost satisfaction. We know that every day
is not going to be same as always, but let’s hope that there are some hidden
surprises with in and we shall take pleasure in bringing it up. The hidden
surprises are going to be our learning’s and teachings which we get and share even
from the smallest things in the world; those will be cherished throughout our
lifetime.
I wish all of
you a very happy and a prosperous new year 2013 with a great learning ahead…!
